INFORMATIONS

Andrea Bellelli, MD is full Professor of Biochemistry at Sapienza University of Rome and presently chairs the Department of Biochemical Sciences “Alessandro Rossi Fanelli” (2009-2015).

He was trained by Prof. Maurizio Brunori (Rome), and was visiting fellow at the Weizmann Institute of  Science (Rehovot, Israel) and the Cornell University (Ithaca, New York, USA).

His main research interest is the study of structure-function relationships in oxygen carrying proteins and in oxido-reductases from mammals and, more recently from human parasites of the genera Schistosoma and Plasmodium. He studied and characterized several inhibitors of some these enzymes, notably of Thioredoxin Reductase and Thioredoxin Glutathione Reductase, some of which are used in therapy.

Andrea Bellelli is a member of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), and the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SIB), of which he also served as the General Secretary (2003-2006). Andrea Bellelli authored or co-authored over 100 scientific publications.
