john hiscottJohn Hiscott, Ph.D. is Director of Laboratorio Pasteur, Istituto Pasteur-Fondazione Cenci Bolognetti in Rome Italy. Dr. Hiscott’s work is internationally recognized for his contributions to the field of antiviral innate immunity; his research also includes analysis of the host response to emerging viral pathogens such as influenza, dengue and chikungunya. Dr. Hiscott also studies human retroviral pathogenesis, and is investigating the use of oncolytic viruses as novel immunotherapeutics for cancer. He earned his doctorate from New York University Medical Center, and completed post-doctoral training at the University of Zurich in Switzerland.  Prior to joining Istituto Pasteur, Dr. Hiscott was Professor and Director of the Molecular Oncology Group at Jewish General Hospital, McGill University in Montreal & Program Director at the Vaccine & Gene Therapy Institute of Florida. Dr. Hiscott has earned numerous awards and distinctions, including the Milstein Award from the International Society of Interferon and Cytokine Research, Scientist and Senior Scientist scholarships from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Distinguished Service Award from the Israel Cancer Research Fund, and the Beijerinck Award in Virology from Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands. He is a member of several scientific journal editorial boards, and is Editor-in-chief of Cytokine and Growth Factors Review, a leading immunology review journal.
